We use pure tung oil to finish these bowls. It is a food safe, natural oil finish with centuries of use. The glue we use is food safe and waterproof.
How our Wood Salad Bowls are made.
Our salad bowls are handcrafted by creating each layer individually, then laminating them together to create the rough shape we want in the salad bowl.
This rough bowl shape is then mounted on a lathe and the Salad Bowl is cut out of the rough shape. This is then sanded and finished with pure tung oil, giving a natural tough waterproof finish to the bowl and one that is completely food safe.
The wood used in the salad bowls above is raintree. The glue used is waterproof and safe for food contact.
Caring for your Wooden Salad Bowl
After use, your wooden salad bowl should be washed with warm water, soap can be used if you wish. Hot water (too hot for hands) should be avoided, if possible, no matter what the wood item is, as it can cause the wood to warp. NO DISHWASHERS.
Once the salad bowl has been rinsed, you can either let it drip dry or wipe with a dish towel.
There is no need to apply any oils or waxes to the wooden salad bowl unless you feel the need. Simply store it away for the next time you use it.
