Open Bottom 9.5 inch Boat Shuttle, Tulip Oak

(1 customer review)

$95.00

These are a special run of environmentally beneficial shuttles made from recycled floorboards that were first laid before the first world war. The wood is sound, and ready for a new lease on life as a weaving tool.

The shuttles take a standard Ashford bobbin (not included) and are designed to be used with rigid heddle and table looms regardless of brand or make. You can see this size shuttle in action here via Kelly Casanova’s youtube channel.

We sell internationally, and for our USA customers we take care of tariffs at this end with zero extra cost to you.

Description

The history of the floorboards these shuttles are made from is quite interesting. They were originally the floor of a community/dance hall located in the Atherton Tablelands of far North Queensland, Australia. The hall was built around the early 1900s and was in use until 1945-1950, when the hall was dismantled and the floor sections were re-purposed as a floor at a sports complex at Atherton. The sports complex fell into disrepair and was pulled down around 2015. The floorboards spent the next 7 years piled up in a recyclers yard waiting for the next chapter to be written… and here we are. We estimate the age of the tree to be approximately 70 years old when Captain Cook landed in Australia.
