Silkwood maple holds some wonderful color tones. The heart-wood holds gorgeous bronze tones and the wood closer to the sapwood actually turns to silver tones.
The shuttles that we have available in this listing are grouped together regardless of color tone and as such, the images shown are examples only of the typical colors that we have available at this time. Rest assured they are all lovely in the hand and individually wonderful.
Some of these shuttles can have a splash of figure within the grain, but not enough to warrant an individual listing (that takes precious time).
These shuttles take a standard 100mm ashford style bobbin (not included) but will accept other bobbins.

This shuttle holds some nice figure that is subtle yet very pretty. The figure is throughout the body and changes as you turn the shuttle on different angles. As this shuttle is not one with rare heavy figure, it is priced accordingly, a little above a standard grain and below the exotic quality pricing.

Every now and then we come across some wood that has strong figure within the grain, and you know it is truly special. This is one of those times. We have a small quantity of figured Silkwood Maple that we have earmarked for boat shuttles, and this closed bottom shuttle is the second of them in this design.
The shape is a modified version of our standard shuttle and came to be through some valued input from a leading Australian weaver/teacher.

These open bottom shuttles are only 1 inch or 25mm high and are suitable for small sheds.
They can of course be used on any loom you wish, however if your loom does have a small shed and you have trouble finding an appropriate height shuttle, these shuttles are for you.
Designed to use a standard 100mm bobbin like the Ashford style, so the end flanges of the bobbin stay within the body of the shuttle. Bobbin not included.
They are a lightweight shuttle and would be great for those who weave for extended periods and get tired arms and shoulders.

These take a standard 100mm bobbin (not included). We have added a finger hole to the base of these shuttles to aid with bobbin removal.
